After nearly 2-years of Amateurism, we proudly present the seventh instalment of Pro-Am - the quarterly/seasonal mix series in which we invite our favourite DJ/producer/selector's to create something exclusive and special for us. Fortunately we've had some of the people we most admire agree to create mixes for us so far, and Pro-Am 7 is no different as we welcome Mr Pete Wiggs to join the crew.
As one-third of the much-heralded British electronic-pop act Saint Etienne (alongside Bob Stanley and Sarah Cracknell), Pete has been able to immerse himself in music for his entire career, with their brilliant debut album 'Foxbase Alpha' coming out on Heavenly Rec back in 1991. As a highly-talented producer, keyboardist, song-writer, vocalist and more, Pete's work as a musician will continue to be felt for a long time to come, but it's his love of unearthing special records and DJing that we're able to enjoy here.
Having DJ'ed and put on parties for many years, Pete is no amateur, but it's clear that the love and enjoyment he has for finding and sharing his discoveries definitely carries the Amateurism spirit of doing it "because it's your passion". With a particular penchant for soul-infused songs and grooves of all variety, Pete's Pro-Am mix consists of, as he says himself "a few of my all-time favourites, mainly 70's and 80's funk and hopefully a few you haven't heard before".
All we can say is that this is one of the most enjoyable selections we've heard in a very long time and we are incredibly grateful that Pete took the time out to put this together for us. It's a killer mix, and as our mutual friend and fellow amateur Herbal Rob would say, "he's a bloody good egg".
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. And if you do, please make sure to check Pete's weekly radio show 'The Seance' alongside his friend James Papademetrie - you can go through the archive HERE.
Also look out for a brand new record label 'Giant Moth' that Pete will be launching later this year. We definitely will be.
