Name: Jay Squier
"Jay Squier - The Balearic PR! Having been introduced to each other by my wonderful mother, Jay's been a keen follower of Amateurism for a little while. When I found out that her and husband Jasper were Ibiza/DC10 veterans with their very own a villa on the island - all the stars aligned for a new edition of Balearic Island Discs."
Occupation: Beauty PR (although the beauty press come to me for advice on the island too, so I'd say Beauty and Balearic PR!)
Most useful Spanish phrase: "La cuenta, por favor?"
All-time favourite party experience in Ibiza: September 2001. Recovering from Space the night before. I was invited to go to a club none of us had yet been to called DC10. I resisted, and one aeroplane-mad friend called Mike literally stuck my head under the shower, told me to 'man up' and get ready.
Hair tied in a bun, hardly any makeup on (I'm a beauty addict and usually spend a little bit more time grooming), I enter DC10. The first person I see is Boy George wearing a leopard print hat surrounded by handsome boys. Neon yellow tall glasses are filled with vodka limon, the music is insane, the people, dressed in all kinds of weird and wonderful styles were just stunning. Tanned, beautiful, music loving sun worshippers. Shades on, we danced under the sun (no roof back then) to the thumping beat of Circo Loco DJ's. No idea who they were that particular day, but it changed everything. We went every year, sometimes twice a year back to Ibiza, back to DC10. For me, still the absolute best club on the island. Many group photos taken year after year against the yellow, now red walls. Happy, happy days.
Favourite place to chill in the Balearics: The Hacienda Hotel has a fantastic view. My boyfriend Jasper (now my husband) and I saved up and stayed one night of the ten days there the first time we ever visited the island. We watched the most amazing sunset and had a great time. We were both not earning much back then so it was a big deal. We took lots of photos and accidentally left our camera in the back of a taxi the day after. The memories are still there.
Since we've had children, our new chill out place is any beach with a good sun set so mainly the South West coast. We hit the beach around 4pm, swim and build sandcastles, have an ice cream, catch a sunset, eat at the restaurant of the beach. Recent favourites have been Cala D'Hort, Benirras and our local beach Cala Tarida (we have a villa there), after which we drive to San Jose and eat a delicious tapas at Destino.
If stranded in the Balearics for the rest of my life I would... think I'd died and gone to heaven!
My luxury item would be... Sunseeker please.
The book i'd take would be... This is torture as I love too many. However, my recent one is How to be a Woman by Caitlin Moran. Had me in stitches.
